About Richard
I started Body Church Fitness in 1999 but its roots go back to 1995 when I was a young private in the military. I thoroughly enjoyed my 10 year career in the military going from an E-1 Private to an E-5 Sgt, and than onto being a flight officer flying the venerable AH-64 Apache attack helicopter a long held dream of mine. Though my career path took me through a myriad of experiences and challenges but the one constant was physical fitness. Physical fitness has always been a part of my personal life. In the military from early on as an enlisted soldier up to and through my officer career I always had the additional duty of being a training officer. Initially I was trained by the Army in the Army Master Fitness program and I worked with everyone from run of the mill infantry soldiers to Army Rangers, and the Special Forces. Eventually however, I began to train civilians and became accredited in the National Academy of Sports Medicine, American Counsel of Exercise, and APEX.
Even after completing Business degrees from Arizona State University in Marketing, Management, and Administration I still felt led to continue to be involved in the fitness industry. I have worked with people between the ages of 14-96 years of age but most of my clients have been in their 30's to 40's. I enjoy working with the average citizen as opposed to just athletes as I not only enjoy more job satisfaction but my heart is heavy over the decline of health in the America. We may have lost several thousand soldiers in the Middle East but another real war, the war that we are losing is with our own health in America where millions have lost their lives to poor nutritional habits, lack of exercise, and mismanaged stress. I have spent the last 15 years consuming the best literature in nutrition and Exercise, and through my own numerous injuries from the military or myself I have learned to rehabilitate the human body back from rather serious injuries. I certainly don’t claim to be an expert or professional in the field of rehab but after successfully rehabilitating my own knees, shoulders, back etc...I have the ability to relate to exactly what someone is feeling and have shared in great success over the years. And now that I am married to a Musculoskeletal Therapist together we have had success with individuals who found no relief through Doctors, Chiropractors, and Massage therapists!
Vision
Through my years of training my thinking has evolved as well as my training methods. I have seen just about every method of training possible from the ridiculous and ineffective to the efficient and functional. Most gyms are chocked full of machines that will guide you through a set range of motion and isolated movement. In real life however, there is no set prescribed range of motion that is the same for everyone and there is no machine attached to you that will stabilize your every movement. You are the machine; I train people to be powerful in structure, function, and stability. In real life there is no isolated movements; dozens or more muscles contract and work in unison to provide every movement that you make. If the top athletes in the world across all sports train in this way than why would you want to train any other way? The side benefit is a sculpted, lean, functional, and balanced body as long as nutritional guidelines are met. The equipment that I use is tailored directly towards meeting the goals of these concepts and is scalable for use by the beginner or the Olympian alike. There are no compromises in the equipment or the exercises that are employed with many things you will never see at a gym.
Step outside of the box, and train indoors and outdoors with our mobile training gym.
